Casual Royal Mail workers blamed for lost post

ROYAL Mail has launched an investigation after bundles of mail were dumped in a skip in an estate in King’s Cross.
Bills, private letters, magazine subscriptions and gifts – some already opened – had been abandoned in a bin underneath a rubbish chute at the Bemerton estate in Caledonian Road on Wednesday.

A caretaker also found a bag of mail on Monday – destined for Earslferry Way – lying in a corridor with letters strewn across the floor.
The incidents have prompted calls from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) to halt the employment of part-time casual workers in place of full-time staff who are refusing to do extra work without being paid overtime. A postman of three years, who did not want to be named blamed casual staff who do not know the area.

There is no two ways about it. The public like having a regular postperson who they get to know, but the idea of this is lost on many managers, especially that pair of spivs at the top. It takes time to build up trust.
