Public Meeting - The Royal Mail deal - Return to Sender!

Post by LondonUNISON »

Not sure if it's ok to advertise political meetings on here. If not please feel free to delete thread!

Within hours of Royal Mail management getting a High Court injunction against further strike action by postal workers, leaders of the CWU announced they had signed up to a deal to end a long-running dispute over pay, pensions and working conditions. As more details have emerged, the evidence mounts that the agreement threatens to turn into a major defeat for postal workers and their union that could pave the way to the eventual wholesale privatisation of the service.

Come and join an open discussion, kicked off by a leading London CWU activist, of the deal and how to build resistance to it against the backdrop of a much broader assault by Gordon Brown and New Labour on the public sector workforce.

7pm Thursday 8 November
The Plough Tavern, Museum Street WC1

Nearest tubes: Tottenham Court Road and Holborn

Who's the leading London CWU activist just out of curiousity.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This indicates that London will say NO to the vote

Post by F0zziebear »

Some on here seemed to suggest that London was going to endorse the deal, which did get a swift response if I remember correctly.

It seems that the London branch (which so far has not declare dit's position) is pushing for a NO vote.

What I don't understand is how is it that individually the current estimated vote is somewhere between 40-60% (swinging in either direction).

Is it fair to argue that the individual postal worker is not in line with the (inidividual/branch) position, which is contrary to the national PEC.

If all the branches are voting no then how can you have confidence in the National Exec. to negotiate and represent you on a national level?

I am not here to stir up trouble, but am confused by what I hear in relation to the negotiations

Please correct me if what I am saying doesn't make sense
