Skybus to deliver mail to Isles of Scilly for another five years

Royal Mail has awarded a new five year contract to the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group to continue delivering and collecting post on the islands.

The mail will be delivered six days a week by the group's airline Skybus, via Land's End and St Mary's airports.

Andy Daintree, head of island businesses and freight services at the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said: "The post is one of the lifeline services that we provide to islanders and we look forward to continuing our long relationship with Royal Mail.

"Although the vast majority of post is carried by air these days we can always fall back on our sea operation if necessary.


"We will continue to deliver the same level of service as now, which will include two collections a day on the off islands."

Among the many Isles of Scilly businesses who rely on Royal Mail is Scilly Flowers on St Martins, which in the last 20 years has sent well over a million gift boxes of island- grown scented flowers by first class post.

Ben Julian, whose parents Andrew and Hillary set up Scilly Flowers, said: "A reliable postal service is absolutely critical to our business because we send boxes of fresh flowers year-round to any doorstep in the UK.

"The Steamship Group's investment in transport links in recent years is providing a more robust service and we look forward to working with them and Royal Mail in the years ahead."
