Royal Mail is closing the offices in order to "to increase the efficiency of its operation"

Royal Mail is set to close two of its small sorting offices in Cambridgeshire, with residents expected to make a 20-mile round trip to collect undelivered mail.

The move will effect residents in Sawtry and Warboys from next Thursday as the Royal Mail continues its efficiency drive.

Customers in Warboys will have to collect their parcels from Ramsey Post Office, which will be increasing its opening hours.

However, the firm has been unable to offer a new collection point for Sawtry customers, who will need to travel 10 miles along the A1 to the Huntingdon office.

No jobs are expected to be lost in the move, with nine delivery staff employed at the two offices still serving the same communities.

A spokesman said: "As a commercial business, we are operating in a market where letters are in structural decline and where there is competition in letters and parcels.

"The Sawtry and Warboys small sorting offices are no longer fit for purpose, as now we deal with many more parcels."

Customers can also select an alternative delivery address or arrange a re-delivery over the phone or at ww.royalmail.com.
