Chigwell residents sporadic mail delivery prompts RM apology

Royal Mail has been forced to apologise to customers living in Chigwell and Hainault after residents complained they were only receiving post every three days.

Julie Lamack, who lives in The Lowe, Chigwell, said her son almost missed his school trip to France after passport information for his journey arrived five days after it was sent.

“Since last week we have had so many troubles with the post,” she said. “We were getting letters every three days and deliveries about twice a week.

“My son is due on a school trip to France on Thursday. I hadn’t received any information from the school and I needed to organise his passport. “On Tuesday I recovered about half a dozen letters in the post which were sent on September 10.

“Luckily my son can still go on the trip because I went directly to the school to bring his passport but someone should look into this.”

A spokeswoman from Royal Mail said there had been staff shortages at their depot in Debden.

“Royal Mail apologises to customers who have been experiencing some issues with their mail deliveries in some areas of Debden recently,” she said.

“This has been due to staff shortages in the office. We have put contingency plans in place, which include drafting in extra resource and employing a number of new staff who will join us within the next few weeks, to resolve the matter as quickly as we possibly can.”
