NO post has been delivered to parts of Worcester for up to a week.

Nicola Long, of Rydal Close, Warndon, said she was told staff shortages were to blame after complaining about the lack of post in the WR4 area of the city.

Miss Long said she had received letters for the first time in a week today (Tuesday) and was missing five parcels.


She said: "The last time I got home to any post was Monday, September 6.

"I'm expecting five parcels and a first class recorded delivery item is just sat somewhere.


"On Friday I went to the sorting office and they pointed to a big pile of mail and said, 'it's probably in there. There's not enough people to sort it.'

"They said extra vans would come out Saturday and Sunday but I had nothing."


A spokesman for the Royal Mail apologised and said the organisation was trying to sort out service problems in WR4 as a matter of urgency.

But after Miss Long posted about the missing post on the Worcester News Facebook page, we were inundated with other people who said their post was missing, delivered late or taken to the wrong addresses.

Miss Long said: "I've just arrived home to a card through the door about one of the items but the card has the wrong address written on it.


"I had to turn down £125 worth of work.

"It's an absolute joke.

"Apparently they are bringing staff over from Birmingham to help but they don't know where they are going.

"My postmen have always been brilliant but I don't know what's going on down there at the moment."

Sara Jayne Clark, who lives off Bath Road, said her post was also erratic.

She said: "I ordered a parcel online and was told it's delivered but I went to the sorting office and they don't know what the postman has done with it.

"You can go days without having post and then all of a sudden have ten letters.

A postman, who asked not to be named, said postmen did their very best.

He said: "The problem is they only take new staff on on a part-time basis.


"My contracted hours are 9.30am to 2.30pm and we are told when we arrive all our mail will be ready to go out.

"We get in and nothing is ready. Some days you can be sorting mail and not get out until gone 11am which only leaves three and a half hours to do a round, which is impossible.

"Managers change all the time and also leave Royal Mail after many years service as they can't cope with the pressure they are under."

A spokesman said: "Royal Mail is working hard to address service problems which have affected the WR4 area recently as a matter of urgency.

"We sincerely apologise to any customers in the WR4 area who have experienced delays in receiving mail in recent days.

"Our focus is to restore our service to the high standards our customers would normally receive as quickly as possible.

Absolutely no chance moya will do something about it, she is only interested in the destruction of royal mail, ive heard many managers are now going on the sick due to stress and anxiety...

Yes, I believe my office failed a couple. Just not replacing leavers, too much lapsing being left and few will extend/do docket on Sat. Managers seem very thin on the ground on Saturdays too, whereas in the week one or two will prise themselves away from the vending machines to take out bits and pieces.

Staff and hours cut to the bone, this is sadly inevitable.

Staffing issues to blame for lack of mail in parts of Worcester

EXTRA staff and more resources have been drafted in to help Royal Mail tackle the problem with late deliveries in the WR4 area in Worcester.

Staffing issues including employees absent from work because of sickness is being blamed for some houses in the area not receiving mail for around a week.

Royal Mail has promised it is "restoring the service to the high standards our customers would normally receive" after we exclusively revealed homes had been experiencing problems with the service.

After our story broke, more complaints have been flooding in from residents and businesses who have been caught up in the problem.

Ted Anderson wrote on the Worcester News Facebook page: "Had a First Class item posted on the 3rd Sept. Arrived 14th Sept. What sort of service is that?

"Even had mail not arrive at all.

"We've had a succession of stand-in posties over the past couple of months.

"Some even working in pairs, going up and down the road several times looking lost and using mobile phones - I assume for GPS info."

Emily Woods had also been frustrated at the situation.

She wrote: "Ordered 3 things for my brothers wedding on FRIDAY a couple of weeks ago and still not been delivered..!! had to go and buy another pair of shoes etc just to make sure I've got them ready for the day."

Polly Gilbert added: "For years in WR4 we had the same postie with just occasionally a different guy, but never any problems.

"Over the past few months we have had post sporadically, quite often at tea time.

"I have watched the men delivering and they go round in circles with their trolleys, often working in pairs!"

The issues have also been affecting city businesses as Leigh Robinson explained.

"I run a business and need post daily.

"It has had an effect on how I run things. Not good!

"My postie is a lovely chap and he keeps me informed but when he is away it all goes to pot.

"I had a first class item take 6 days to reach me! Joys of a privatised post office!"

Others have said they had noticed an improvement in the service since the story appeared online on Monday and in print the following day.


CJH said: "Someone at the Post Office must have pulled their finger out this morning.

"I've been waiting for a parcel (to St Peters) which I was expecting last week.

"Was delivered this morning, by the Royal Mail, but it was a hire van and delivery man was obviously temp staff (no uniform, just a post office hi vis jacket)."

A spokesman for Royal Mail asked people with any concerns about their mail delivery to contact customer services on 03457 740740.

"We sincerely apologise to any customers in the WR4 postcode area who have been experiencing late and differing delivery times in the WR4 postcode area recently.

"This has been due to staffing issues, including sick absence.

"We have put contingency plans in place as a matter of urgency, which includes drafting in extra resource and employing new staff and we are restoring the service to the high standards our customers would normally receive."

She added that the high standards included its recent quality of service results for the WR postcode area, which shows 94.1 per cent of First Class mail was delivered the next working day after posting, against a target of 93.0 per cent.

My office has failed deliveries, I don't think the DOM reports them but if he does then the whole thing is now systematic, from the very top they are allowing duties to fail because they wont replace the staff that have left.

As i often say "it's time to pull up the drawbridge" remove the goodwill (if any still exists), no more assistance let them get on with it . Carry on , but it will be without my help.

Just did a quick search on previous posts, and in the recent past I found deliveries not going out at Redbridge, Brentwood, Stirling, as well as Worcester. How many did I miss ?
All appear to be due to staff off sick.
Now we know Moya's team look at this site, so, a message to them : do a little bit of research, and you'll see the staff sickness is, in the main, down to either physical injuries caused by the hammering taken by various joints, or stress. So, perhaps the time has come to do something about it.....

It's about time the goodwill stopped across the country. The cwu should pull their finger out and make sure it is being done. It's the posties fault with the sickness levels. NO ITS ROYAL MAIL FOR PUTTING IN WORK LOADS THAT CANNOT BE ACHIEVED with the staffing levels they have in place.
