Tributes to Luke Harding Colchester

FOOTBALL shirts and flowers have been left in tribute to a young man who died after going missing after a night out in Colchester.

Luke Harding, 21, of Ferndale Close, Clacton, did not meet his friends as planned in the early hours of June 28.


His disappearance sparked a huge search involving the police, colleagues from the Royal Mail and friends and family.

An appeal for information spread across social media and police carried out searches by land and air.

Police officers found his body in the River Colne near Castle Park last Tuesday.

Friends and team-mates have laid flowers and notes on the bridge linking Castle Park and Leisure World.

One wrote: “Can’t believe you’re gone, man, I’m gonna miss you. Sleep tight bud.”

A signed Physical Limits Gym T-shirt has also been left at the bridge. It says: “Lukey. From all the lads down the gym, RIP. See you at the gym in the sky.”

Many of the notes refer to Luke as Ding.

A Tottenham Hotspur polo shirt has been tied to the railings, covered in handwritten messages.

One wrote: “Can’t believe it mate. Football will never be the same. Miss you Hardingle.”

Another said: “RIP Ding. Heart of gold and the nicest lad you could have ever wished to meet.

See you soon geez!”

One tribute reads: “Late night Xbox will never be the same Ding. Much love Ding. Rest easy.”

Several bunches of flowers have also been left on the bridge.

Luke worked at the Royal Mail depot in Colchester.

He left Yates’ bar in Head Street at 1am and was seen in Vineyard Street car park.

He was due to meet friends at 3am to get a taxi home, but did not arrive.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

An inquest will be held into his death at a later date.
