Stroke Association names RM Corporate Supporter of the year

Royal Mail Group was named Corporate Supporter of the Year by the Stroke Association at the charity’s annual Life after Stroke Awards.

Royal Mail aims to raise £2m for the Stroke Association over two years as part of a Charity of the Year partnership. The funds will help the charity to provide Life After Stroke Grants to 10,000 stroke survivors and their families.

Royal Mail has hosted over 100 Know Your Blood Pressure events for staff across the country since the partnership launched in September 2014, educating them on stroke risk and prevention.

Royal Mail recently created a bespoke postmark with the potential to reach 29.5 million homes a day, to highlight the work of the Stroke Association. It has also launched two new initiatives – the Royal Mail Fun Runs and a nationwide Operations Fundraising Challenge – to raise money for the charity.

Gary Grange, community investment manager at Royal Mail, picked up the award on behalf of the organisation. Grange said Royal Mail’s teams play a vital role in communities throughout the UK, and the organisation is passionate about supporting the Stroke Association to ensure everyone has a life after stroke.

“Our people are fantastic fundraisers. Our role is to give them the chance to do activities they enjoy and make it easy for them to get involved. So far, people have raised money through sky diving and taking part in fun runs, giving directly through payroll giving and taking part in UK wide major fundraising campaigns. All the money has been ring fenced to help stroke survivors.”

Stroke Association chief executive John Barrick said Royal Mail is by far the charity’s largest corporate supporter.

“Thanks to this Charity of the Year partnership, we have also been able to reach more people than ever before with potentially life-saving information; Royal Mail’s own employees, through awareness events and members of the public, through collaborative promotions and community activities.”
