24-year-old jailed for 'terrifying' post office robbery

A MAN who threatened post office workers with an imitation gun during a “terrifying” robbery has been jailed.


Ryan Pryce, of Rectory Road in St Mary in the Marsh, threatened staff and stole £2,258 worth of cash, Euros and stamps from Aldington Post Office in March.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday.

A 17-year-old man from Scotland who cannot be named for legal reasons has also been sentenced to a two year detention and training order for his role in the crime.


At around 1.30pm on March 31, the pair entered the post office wearing fabric masks fashioned out of clothing, with 24-year-old Pryce appearing to have a gun. It later transpired to be a toy gun.

He demanded cash was handed over and smashed a glass counter to gain access to steal more cash from there. His pal held an iron bar and waited by the front door during the incident.

They left by foot, but made their getaway in a Peugeot 307 which was later found abandoned.

Initially, Pryce denied he had taken part in the robbery, but later confessed and told officers he regretted his actions.

Detective Constable Chris Brett said: “The victims were put through a terrifying ordeal although thankfully this particular type of incident is not common.

“The initial enquiries made by Kent Police led us to the offenders and they are now behind bars.

“This incident happened in a rural location and we would like to thank members of the local community for assisting with the investigation.”
