Royal Mail is set to report a sharp rise in profits this week, just days after it was accused of forcing its key rival, Whistl, out of the letters business.

Investment bank Investec expects Royal Mail, under chief executive Moya Greene, to report a 15 per cent increase in profits to £421million for the year to the end of March.
Last week Whistl, Royal Mail’s only rival to offer door-to-door letter delivery, suspended its letters services along with 2,000 staff after heavy losses. It is part of Dutch mail group PostNL, formerly TNT Post UK.

Whistl chief executive Nick Wells blamed its failure on Royal Mail, accusing it of ‘anti-competitive and predatory pricing’ practices. Royal Mail denies it was at fault.

The collapse will benefit Royal Mail as it picks up business that could add 5 per cent to profits, according to investment bank Goldman Sachs.
Royal Mail’s overall revenue is set to be flat at £9.4billion. The firm expects future growth to come from parcel delivery.

My thoughts exactly.

Perhaps he was alluding to the preferential VAT-exempt situation RM enjoys.

But if DSA is so rigged in RM's favour then why do TNT/Whistl bother at all?

And let us not forget that liar in the select committee who argued that RM needs to improve its productivity - at least we are still delivering (and sorting 40-50% of) the nation's mail at a profit with a seemingly overpaid and underworked workforce if you believe the propaganda.
