Post Office wrongly shamed waitress as thief

Staff at a Post Office who named and shamed a waitress for posting her photo on large screens in the store calling her a thief have offered the woman an apology for their mistake.

A clerk at the post office in Reading angrily accused the waitress of trying to steal after becoming muddled over numbers.

When the innocent restaurant worker refused to back down, the assistance took her picture from the CCTV camera and put it on the public screen to publicly name and shame her.

However, when she handed over the £580 at the counter a Post Office assistant logged it in the system as £850, before demanding the 33-year-old hand over £270 to make up the difference.

Reading Post Office has contacted the customer in question and resolved the issue and they would like to apologise for any distress this incident may have caused.
