Ten colleagues have started their roles as internal mediators

The mediators are on hand to step in if an internal dispute can’t be resolved, as long as both parties agree. They are jointly managed by Royal Mail and the CWU, reporting to head of industrial relations Jane Fairhurst and CWU senior policy advisor Lionel Sampson.
Jane says: ‘Everyone gelled really quickly as a team. They have been through induction and intensive training from mediation experts TCM Group, including writing a dissertation, and have all gained external accreditation.
‘I’m delighted they are now up and running in their roles.’
Two of the mediators are Allison Miller and Steve Borley. Allison, previously a CWU area rep in the customer experience unit, says: ‘It has been an eye-opener so far, with so much to learn, but it’ been the best training I have ever had.
‘I was keen to develop and learn new skills, and continuous professional development is all part and parcel of our ongoing training.’
Steve, previously a delivery sector manager, says: ‘I was impressed with the investment in creating these roles and the training we had. It’s a new role, so we have the chance to shape it.
‘To be involved in improving industrial relations in the company is really interesting and something totally different for me.’

Hell of an admission for an ex-DSM and you wonder why the business is screwed....It was part of his job as a DSM to improve industrial relations in the company and the genius didn't even notice it.
