Cash delivery staff in strike vote

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) at the Supply Chain Network will vote in the coming weeks on whether to launch a campaign of industrial action.

The Post Office said it was "extremely disappointed", adding it had offered a series of above-inflation linked pay increases, together with lump sum payments.

Keith Rann, head of Supply Chain, said: "After almost six months of talks with the CWU we remain absolutely committed to reaching an agreement which recognises our people for their hard work and allows us to make the changes we need to modernise and grow our business.

"We are undertaking the biggest modernisation programme in UK retail history to ensure we become commercially viable and reduce our reliance on public money. We urge the CWU to reconsider their unrealistic demands and resume talks to discuss an affordable pay deal."

The Post Office said its proposals comprised of a two or three-year pay deal, which includes a 1.9% pay rise from April this year plus two lump sum payments of £500 and £200.

CWU national officer Andy Furey said: "To say we are disappointed would be an understatement.

"Whilst a revised offer has been made this was rejected as being completely inadequate and it excludes our admin members, which is disgraceful.

"In view of the attitude of the Post Office, we have been left with no choice other than to ballot for industrial action.

"We know they've got the money, they can pay our members a fair deal, and we intend to ensure that they do."

The Post Office said it had offered a series of pay increases comprising more than 5%, together with lump sum payments of up to £1,400, over the proposed three-year deal.
