Postman delivers a charity boost after head shave

A GRIMSBY man has raised £200 for Macmillan Cancer nurses by having his head shaved.

Postman Steve Roberts, 53, had his head shaved by Terri-Louise Davis at Fabulocks, in Welholme Road.

Through sponsors he managed to raise an impressive £200 for national charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Steve's support of the charity stemmed from personal experience.

He said: "I decided to help Macmillan nurses as they looked after my mum, Maisie Roberts, back in 1996, and were a tremendous comfort to us all at the time.

"I think they tend to be overlooked due to the sad nature of their work, but it's still very important work."

Macmillan nurses are a valued and trusted source of information, advice and support for many people affected by cancer in the UK and they make a lot of difference with the work they do.

In 2010, for example, they helped around 385,000 people.

They are also funded almost entirely by voluntary donations, so Steve's contribution will have a big impact and be greatly appreciated by the charity, and the people whose lives it will improve.
