Top facilities firms win POL services contract

Two of the UK's leading facilities companies Norland and Servest will be taking over Romec's service-providing operations for the Post Office from the beginning of October, following their respective successes in POL's contract tendering process.

Romec As part of the new arrangements, some 70 Romec plant and facilities maintenance workers will be transferring to Norland, while around 300 Romec cleaners will be carrying out their duties for Servest.
CWU national officers Ray Ellis and Bob Gibson have been in discussions with Romec and the two new companies and it has been confirmed that the statutory Transfer of Undertakings and Protection of Employment (TUPE) regulations will apply to all staff.

Bob Gibson Bob explained: "All existing pay, terms and conditions are fully protected going forward" and Ray added: "There is a commitment by both new employers to provide for occupational pension arrangements comparable to existing schemes."

The union is seeking detailed clarification of pension arrangements for the minority of members who belong to the Royal Mail Pension Plan (RMPP), Ray added, pointing out that RMPP scheme members' interests are specifically protected in law under a 2002 statutory undertaking made by Royal Mail Group.
Both Ray and Bob will be engaging in further talks with Norland and Servest respectively with the aim of concluding ongoing, formal CWU recognition and collective bargaining agreements going forward.

Ray Ellis "The discussions with Norland so far have been positive and we're looking forward to building a constructive working relationship with them in the interests of our members, the customers we serve and the company itself," said Ray.
And Bob added: "Our initial dialogue with Servest has also been constructive, and the CWU will aim to work with them to build future success."
