Royal Mail have refused to deliver post to an address in Stockton because of a "hazardous" puddle.

A leak in Dan Lambton's garden means a small area behind his front gate is constantly wet.

Although Dan, 24, found the small puddle annoying he was surprised when Royal Mail refused to deliver to him any more, claiming it was dangerous.

He said: "It's just a little puddle but the post office have branded it a 'slip hazard'. It's not difficult to simply step over it, we're only talking about an area less than a yard square. But because of that one puddle I have now not received any mail in four months."

Dan is unable to collect post from his nearest sorting office because they require a recent utility bill as ID; but because he hasn't received post in so long he does not have one.

The leak bubbles up from an underground stream and trickles from his garden onto the path near his front door.

Dan, a dispensing chemist with Boots, said: "I've tried everything to get it fixed but nothing works. The water authority said it's coming from an underground stream and we have a high water table in the street so it's virtually impossible to stop it."

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "We suspended the delivery of mail following an unexplained leak at the front door of the customer’s property which included raw sewage. The safety of our staff is of paramount importance. The suspension of mail is always a last resort."

Could always put a post box by the front gate then he could get his mail by stepping over the puddle himself to collect it after all "It's not difficult to simply step over it"

Continuous water coverage like that could lead to moss and all sorts of slippery build up on that step. I'd tell him to poke it too if I was his postman!

How did the PO get involved with this? If he doesn't understand the difference between RM and the PO then I'd wouldn't want him handling any medication.
