Our financial results 2013-14: key highlights

We have delivered a good performance. But, we are facing tough competition in letters and parcels.

Our CEO, Moya Greene, has said: ’Our performance was in line with our expectations. We delivered 2% revenue growth, controlled operating costs, and drove strong free cash flow.’

Group highlights

The money we are paid for what we do is up 2% (on a like-for-like basis) to around £9.5 billion. Parcels make up more than half of this, at 51%.

Our Group profit after transformation costs has also increased. It is up to £430 million from £403 million. This was due to growth in the money we are paid for parcels more than offsetting the declines we saw in letter volumes.

UK business

The money we are paid in our UK business (UKPIL) is up 2% to around £7.8bn.

It made 3.5p in every pound (on a like-for-like basis), down from 3.9p in every pound (on a like-for-like basis). This decreased due to money set aside for the management reorganisation programme.

In summary

We have made good progress. But, we are facing tough competition in letters and parcels. We need to work together to keep being the best and tackle the challenges we face.
