Sunday work begins ?

Post by cyclemech1 »

Taken from 'my royal mail' today, looks like the next logical step would be the the start of Sunday deliveries? :hmmmm

Weekend network access

We’re opening up our network at weekends to process parcels for large customers

From this weekend, our distribution network will open on Saturdays and on Sundays. This enables large customers to post items on a Saturday afternoon and Sunday for delivery on Mondays.

The launch of the scheme demonstrates how we can bring initiatives to the market quickly and the benefits of working together with the union through the Agenda for Growth.

Supporting online retailing in the UK

Our largest Tracked customers:
•Will be able to ship Tracked 24 items until 5pm on a Sunday. This means that those Tracked 24 items will be delivered on Monday rather than Tuesday, meeting the needs of online shoppers at weekends.
•Will be able to ship Tracked 48 items until 11pm on a Sunday. This means that those Tracked 48 items will be delivered on a Tuesday instead of a Wednesday.

Working together

This significant new capability has been delivered to meet increasing customer demand for a seven-day-a-week service, and helps us to continue to compete effectively in the growing e-retail market.

Sue Whalley, chief operations officer, said: ‘It was critical to open up our network for later collection of tracked items and their processing at weekends. We were losing significant volumes of traffic because the latest collection time was around Saturday lunchtime.

‘It’s one of the first examples of new initiatives agreed through the Agenda for Growth. It shows that when we agree that something makes sense for the business from a commercial perspective, we can engage with the union and work together collaboratively in order to put a solution in place.’

Interesting. I guess this will make Mondays very lumpy and Tuesdays so light it isn't worth delivering as it's only the many parcels on Tuesday we get now that make it worth coming in at all! :hmmmm

It just means that most of my online shopping junkies will be getting their p739 cards a day earlier in the week as they are never in anyway :arrrghhh

Sooner Sunday deliveries happen the better. Amazon recently added more cities that get Sunday delivery in the US.

Just today had a delivery from Amazon Logistics, the tracking details reported delivery tomorrow, just happened to be hoovering the porch and spotted the card. Very basic info stating left next door but he had obviously tried getting round the back of my house because one of the side gates was open, strange thing is I have been at home all day. My dog was going ape at one point, which is most unusual so that must have been when he didn't knock or ring the bell - maybe I should ring to complain that he disturbed my dog!
