Burnley’s landmark Crown Post Office has been given a £265,000 price tag for potential buyers.

The former branch in Hargreaves Street has been put up for sale just weeks after it was controversially closed. Campaigners had battled to stave off closure of the town centre Post Office building.

But the historic red brick Post Office served its final customer last month as services were moved a new home in the town’s W.H. Smith store. Councillors including Council Leader Julie Cooper had petitioned to keep the long-running centre open and union leaders raised concerns that the service would be affected by hiving it off to a high street retailer. But Post Office bosses axed the four-storey building and franchised the service to W.H Smith in Charter Walk Shopping Centre. International real estate firm BNP Paribas has been tasked with selling the vacant 10,000 sq.ft building which could be sold off for retail, leisure or offices.
