Neil Webb was a fans' favourite with Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Portsmouth and England.
He earned £5,000 a week after joining United in 1989 and a young apprentice named David Beckham was honoured to clean the midfielder's boots.
He became manager of Weymouth FC in 1997 but his managerial career was short-lived and in 2007 it emerged Webb, 50, was working as a postman for £220 a week.
