Postie bags a perfect prize

It’s a red letter day for Sheffield postman Stephen Hollin – whose stunning shot of orange skies over Winn Hill in the Peak District has won him a place in a national photography contest.

Stephen, aged 53, has been a postman for 32 years based at the City Delivery Office on Pond Street, and delivers around the Wincobank, Handsworth, Attercliffe and Darnall areas.

But in his spare time the married dad of two daughters – Georgina, 22, and Francesca, 17 – is a keen amateur photographer, and his image has now been selected as runner-up in a national landscape photography competition run by the British Heart Foundation.

Competition entrants were tasked with photographing some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside in areas where the charity runs a series of fundraising hikes and treks.

Stephen, from Burncross, Sheffield, said: “The photograph was not an easy one to accomplish as it meant getting up at 4am and tramping in the dark with only a small torch to light the way, to climb 636m to the summit of Win Hill!

“But it means a lot to be a runner-up, and to finally have someone recognise the effort I put into my photography.”

Stephen’s prize is a place on one of the charity’s hikes or treks where he will have the opportunity to take more stunning images of the British landscape.

He’ll also be able to capture the experiences of those trekking to raise funds for lifesaving research into the UK’s single biggest killer, coronary heart disease.

Stephen’s image was picked by a panel of judges including a photographer, a former camera magazine editor, and the British Heart Foundation’s head of events Nancy Prior.

She said: “Stephen’s photograph reflects the task we set photographers, to capture natural and dramatic landscapes and inspire people to visit them.”

Stephen’s photograph is featured on magazine website http://www.digitalcameraworld.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this month.

But if it really is the sunrise reflecting off the van roof then that should be the one for the Christmas Card from Moya eight months from now. :nana :nana
