A POSTAL van driver is in training for the London Marathon after running the York Brass Monkey Half-Marathon in January to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

Jon Morris, who completed the half-marathon in one hour and 46 minutes, has raised money for Applefields School and local cancer charities in his previous 10k runs.

The 45-year-old Woodthorpe resident said he chose Prostate Cancer UK as his latest cause because of the prevalence of the cancer among men.

“I work at Royal Mail and as it is a mainly male workforce, they need to be aware how common it is. And as it’s Royal Mail’s chosen charity too they will match my fundraising pound for pound.”

Company spokesman Simon Feldman said: “The money raised will help make a vital difference to Prostate Cancer UK’s work.”

The London marathon takes place on April 13th.
