GOLDEN girl Lizzy Yarnold will NOT have a postbox daubed in her honour, Royal Mail has said.
More than 100 iconic red post boxes were painted gold to celebrate every Team GB and ParalympicsGB gold medal won during the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
The postboxes, in the athlete's home town or city, will remain permanently gold to pay tribute to the achievements of the athletes.
However, it appears Sevenoaks's very own Olympic champion will not be afforded the same honour.
Yarnold, 25, from West Kingsdown, dominated her way to skeleton gold in Sochi yesterday and won legions of admirers across the country and further afield.
She was widely tipped as Britain's best gold medal hope and a stunning World Cup campaign raised hopes that a gold medallist would be returning to Kent.
The Chronicle contacted Royal Mail on Thursday, before her first race, to ask if the golden postbox gesture would be made to Yarnold.
A spokesman said: “Royal Mail has no plans to paint a postbox gold in the hometown of Lizzy Yarnold or any other GB gold medal winner.”
He added that it was a one-off gesture to commemorate the outstanding success of the home Games in 2012.
The Chronicle believes Lizzy's stunning success deserves to be marked in a way fit for a champion.
Editor Gabriel Shepard said: “Painting pillar boxes gold was an inspired move by Royal Mail and really captured the public’s imagination.
“Refusing to do the same for Lizzy seems badly out of touch and I urge Royal Mail to reconsider their decision.
“If it’s a question of cost we’ll gladly stump up for a tin or two of paint.”
If you think Sevenoaks's very own golden girl should be afforded the same honour as the other Olympic champions, let Royal Mail know by tweeting #paintitgoldforlizzy to @RoyalMail.

2012 - a public service.
2014 - a private company just looking after overseas shareholders.

It will soon become poor PR for Royal Mail if more people sign what is now a sort of petition; it will be even more churchlish if there is only one gold medal won at the Winter Olympics.
They could just say they will make this one the last... It has to stop because it is not fair on the competitors - cheap and free advertisement/PR.
Personally, I do not think Gold Medalist should be elevated above the other competitors by singling out their achievement.
Also, the skeleton event is a lot to do with the Technology of the equipment/board - much like British Cyclists doing so so much better than the rest of the world. And they got a lots of lottery money based on Amy Williams winning Gold in the last Winter Olympics. It is almost like F1!

I think actually the would get a lot more PR and kudous if they painted one for her in White. Not only will it get good press, it will go down well locally and probably get a lot of write ups and comments on social Media - it all helps.

Her achievement has been recognised by a gold medal.
No need for anything else.

Giving out medals for going quicker than the rest - certainly don't want Royal Mail getting ideas.

Why should the Royal Mail give Lizzy Yarnold a gold post box?
Unlike at the time of the London Olympics, it is now just another private company.
It should no longer be called the Royal Mail, or have the Crown or the Royal Initials on its products and its places of business.
Then we might realise quite what had been stolen from us, in an outright fraud that cries out for a Police investigation.
