A SCUNTHORPE man who received up to 15 parcels every day has been sentenced for fraud.

Andrew Harrison, 31, of Saxon Court, admitted nine charges of fraud by false representation at North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court.

Sunny Dhinsa, prosecuting for Royal Mail, told the court Harrison claimed he had not received several items ordered online, forcing Royal Mail to compensate those sending the packages.

The offences came to light when Royal Mail found 28 out of 32 complaints in the Saxon Court area were found to be relating to Harrison's address.

Mitigating, Andrew Pascoe said Harrison "genuinely did not know whether he had received the packages or not".

He told magistrates it had taken police almost an entire day to search Harrison's home due to the amount of parcels in the property, many of which were unopened.

He added that his client did not know what prompted him to report the packages as unreceived, but said there was no dishonest intent and he simply did not know – something Harrison was struggling to deal with.

Magistrates sympathised with Harrison's personal issues, but stated: "This is a very serious matter, defrauding the Royal Mail, even in a very strange way."

Harrison received a 12-month supervision order, was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, and must pay compensation of £318.40 and court costs of £400.
