Dumped Mail.
A couple found a bundle of undelivered mail abandoned on a rubbish bin outside their house.
Paul Clare discovered the unopened letters on a wheelie bin outside his house in Brookside Crescent, Middleton.
He says he and his wife contacted postal bosses to tell them about the dumped mail – but it was left sitting in full view of the street for four days before it was collected.
Paul, 46, said: “I’m shocked that mail should be treated with such little importance and would hate to think my mail could be left out in the open like this for anyone to take or read.”
Paul’s partner Julie Kirkham, 36, immediately emailed Royal Mail to report the undelivered letters, but was met with an automated reply.
She then phoned the office the following day and was told someone would get back to her within the next couple of hours.
The couple, who both work as HGV drivers, heard nothing further from the Royal Mail until the bundle was collected four days later.
Mr Clare said he hoped that the mail would now be efficiently delivered, but was concerned that such an error could have happened. He added: “I would hate to think this could have fallen into the wrong hands.
“A passing opportunistic thief might have thought it was his lucky day.”
Val Bodden from Royal Mail said: “We can confirm that a small bundle of mail was handed to Royal Mail which was intended for delivery to addresses in Brookside Crescent, Middleton.
“Every item of mail was subsequently delivered and we apologise to those affected customers for the delay.
“We are currently investigating the incident internally.”

Re: Dumped Mail.
Now that I deliver housholds to spec, section a day wether they have mail or not, customers have shot out their front door complaining about the cr@p I put through their door. Where as before, when it's amongst the mail, nobody had ever come out once. Strange....

It is of course possible that under the pressure of the run up to Christmas the post(wo)man put the bundle down there while writing out a P739 then overlooked it when continuing on their unfamiliar round.
No excuse, but I'm sure there's none of us on here that's never made a mistake.

And it's Brookside Crescent

I would agree on that one but would be more concerned over managers taking 4 days to recover it.Lounge Lizard wrote:It is of course possible that under the pressure of the run up to Christmas the post(wo)man put the bundle down there while writing out a P739 then overlooked it when continuing on their unfamiliar round. No excuse, but I'm sure there's none of us on here that's never made a mistake.

Looks like the postie set it down to do something else and then walked off forgetting about it, done it myself but gone back to lift the post/packet/PDA

It's a strange one though because you're not simply going to miss those doors and not realise something is up.DGP1 wrote:Looks like the postie set it down to do something else and then walked off forgetting about it, done it myself but gone back to lift the post/packet/PDA
It's definitely our mail and not just for one door looking at the D2D in the bundle,so why would someone walk up to this door put the bundle down on the bin and then forget to deliver the rest of the street?
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

It also doesn't make any sense that someone would dump such a small bundle, it's strange but strange things happen to us all the time.fishtank wrote:It's a strange one though because you're not simply going to miss those doors and not realise something is up.DGP1 wrote:Looks like the postie set it down to do something else and then walked off forgetting about it, done it myself but gone back to lift the post/packet/PDA

:sad:Yes, I agree this is probably the case. Poor chap or chapess, --with luck, they may get off with a warning. As For those wretched automated machines--worse thing ever. The public cannot contact their local office now.Lounge Lizard wrote:It is of course possible that under the pressure of the run up to Christmas the post(wo)man put the bundle down there while writing out a P739 then overlooked it when continuing on their unfamiliar round. No excuse, but I'm sure there's none of us on here that's never made a mistake.

Re: Dumped Mail.
My first thought was it must be "gone aways" that the new owner of a house has found on moving in and thrown away but maybe not.DGP1 wrote: It also doesn't make any sense that someone would dump such a small bundle,
It could be it is a bundle of missorts. The mail for the Crescent is being missorted on the IPS because Brookside Crescent and Brookside Avenue are on separate walks since the planner did his thing. The postie on the Crescent is a bit of a flyer and is tied up and ready to go long before the postie on the Avenue who is old and slow ad hands him the bundle of missorts right at the end.
Or maybe not.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
