A HOLLOWAY mother of four who has worked for the Post Office for 30 years spoke out this week against plans to close the Highbury branch.
Frances Fitzgerald, 46, a counter clerk at Highbury, appealed for public support to keep the post office open. It is due to close next March. “We already have long queues with irate customers,” she said, “so what will happen when we shut? It will be just longer waits at other nearby post offices.”
Five staff from Highbury will be redeployed to Islington Post Office under the closure but redundancies are also expected. The Holloway branch will be franchised to another firm.
• MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Emily Thornberry along with council leader Councillor Richard Watts will speak at a Save Our Post Office public meeting on Monday at 7pm at the Crescent Suite, 70 Ronalds Road, off Holloway Road, Highbury.
