A POST BOX is at the centre of a first-class row over whether it stays or goes.
The controversial red box is situated on land at the front of a house in New Road, Mistley.
The homeowners have applied to Royal Mail to have it removed, but other residents have now launched a petition to keep a post box on the street.
Mistley Parish Council chairman Martin Rayner told a meeting: “The people who own the land have objected to it and have asked for it to be removed, and it was given approval to be removed.
“Residents have now started a petition. The nearest post box is in Oxford Road, which is a long way to walk when the nights are dark."
Royal Mail said the nearest postbox was close enough to fall within its guidelines, so there were no plans to replace the post box in New Road.
