The company has released its first advert in over six years to mark the crucial role they play in delivering our cards and presents over the festive period.

The advert, seen exclusively at Express Online, is called "We Love Parcels" and features real-life postal workers delivering gifts to excited families across the land.

The firm deliver one billion items of mail each year - of which hundreds of millions will be over Christmas.

The 30-second track is accompanied by a special version of the iconic Beatles song "All You Need is Love", sung by the official Royal Mail choir.

The choir is made up of postal workers from Bristol and Bath who were formed as part of the BBC2 programme, Sing While You Work with choirmaster Gareth Malone.

Royal Mail Chief Executive Officer, Moya Greene, said: "Our people are responsible for delivering millions of precious parcels a year and they go the extra mile to make sure that our customers' needs are met - never more so than at Christmas time. We wanted to capture this spirit, as well as celebrate our postmen and women, and the job they do, from start to finish."

Despite the snowy scenes, the Christmas advert was actually filmed on location in the UK in July.

It will first air tonight on ITV2 at 8.45pm during the break of You've Been Framed.

The following hour it will be screened during A Mother's Son on ITV1.

Royal Mail was floated on the London Stock Exchange in a controversial deal worth £3.3billion in October.

To cope with the demand in the four-week Christmas season, Royal Mail will open ten temporary parcel sorting centres across the nation.
