A conscientious postman who found a birthday present in the street is trying to reunite it with its owner.

While out on his rounds last week, Simon Hithersay, a postman of 22 years, spotted an envelope made out of birthday wrapping paper.

After knocking on several doors in the Merton Park area of the borough, the 46-year-old decided to look inside the envelope to see if there were any clues as to the owner.

He said: "When I opened it, there was another envelope inside which just said "To Ashley, love from nanny and granddad", and that was it.

"There was a sum of money in there and a clipping from an Argos catalogue.

"As a dad myself, it's awful to think someone has not got their present from their grandparents. "I just want to find them so they can have it."

Are you called Ashley, live in the Merton Park area and had a birthday this month?

Fortunate that it wasn't made out of that gold coloured birthday wrapping paper that's so common these days, as Simon probably wouldn't have spotted it on the pavement. :Very Happy
