A POSTWOMAN in High Wycombe took a detour from her round last week to hand her parents an extra special delivery from the Queen.

Julie Harris called in to Fred and Margaret Harris’s Wooburn Green home last Thursday with a card from Her Majesty congratulating them on their diamond wedding anniversary.

The couple, who have lived in the area for 25 years, were greeted at the door by their youngest daughter, who had special permission from Royal Mail bosses to deliver the envelope.

Julie, whose normal round is in the High Wycombe North area, gave up a morning of annual leave to drive her post van to Wooburn Green to mark the occasion.


And Julie’s sisters Linda Nelson and Lisa Collins were also on hand to greet their parents, who celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss with an extended weekend of festivities.

Julie said: "It was lovely to deliver the card, they were certainly shocked and emotional when they saw me at the door. It was a mixture of feelings really.

"I think my dad was half expecting something like that, but my mum had no idea. She was very good about being photographed just after getting out of bed too!

"We all had a get together on the Saturday, with a cousin over from America and family coming from all over the UK, so it was the perfect was to celebrate."
