A Royal Mail driver is to stand trial accused of endangering motorists in a road rage incident.

Gary Jamieson is charged with driving the van dangerously on the Kingsway dual carriageway in Dundee on February 22 this year.

The 50-year-old is accused of swerving along the road for almost three miles on the carriageway and repeatedly trying to block cars from overtaking him.

Jamieson is accused of braking erratically in front of a Vauxhall Zafria car, which caused it to take evasive action, before making an abusive gesture to the occupants of the vehicle.

The Royal Mail worker allegedly weaved across the road and failed to allow the Zafira to overtake on several occasions before encroaching and swerving back into the main flow of the traffic.

He is accused of driving in such a fashion that caused danger to the occupants of the Vauxhall, as well as other road users.

Jamieson, of Kincorth Crescent, Aberdeen, denies the charge of driving dangerously.

Lynne Freeland, defending, said: "We are awaiting statements from the corroborating witnesses in this case and I ask for a further intermediate diet to be set."

A further pre-trial hearing will take place later this month ahead of a trial in October.

What a knob, he's in a RM vehicle and was bound to get at least reported..........these days he'll be lucky to keep his job.

Different rules up North, not only will he lose his licence but he has to lose a few pounds as well.

While it doesn't make it right, the Zafira driver may have sparked the incident by acting stupidly or driving aggressively himself. I have seen some stupid driving by the public as they think the RM drivers won't react which they wouldn't do with other driver that can retaliate otherwise.

:coolr I take it that the driver of the Zafira is aware that the dual carriageway on the Kingsway Dundee has a 50mph speed limit and the Royal Mail van that the driver of the Zafira made several attempts to overtake has a speed limiter fully displayed on the rear of the vehicle because at present there in no mention at what speed the driver of the Zafira was doing.

Interesting so this could be a vexatious prosecution by the Zafira owner.

Might not be the drivers fault, some of these vans come back from workshops like that. The poor driver might have been trying to keep the van in a straight line.

Yes .....and it might not have been an abusive gesture but a friendly one that was misunderstood.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

He might have been trying to fend off a very aggressive wasp, very easy for the other driver to confuse the two,I mean he was driving a Zafira.

Or a customer over exaggerating to further a point. But surely not!

Note to self: don't search Zafira in google images when wife is around.
