Police are still hunting for a gang of masked would-be thieves who smashed into a post office using a concrete boulder.

While two men armed with the boulder ran at the depot on Mocha Parade, Lower Broughton , a third thug stood at the entrance and tried to pull down the roller shutter to stop customers leaving.

They attempted to smash the security screen at the cashier's desk but ran off empty handed in the direction of riverside at about 1pm on June 6.

The three men had their hoods pulled tight covering their faces.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Sue West, of Swinton CID , said: "Although this incident happened more than a month ago we are as determined as ever to take these would be robbers off the street.

"We have spoken to several witnesses who were there at the time, but we haven't been able to trace the offenders.

"If you saw anything, no matter how insignificant it might have seemed at the time please get in touch. Your call could help us take these men off the streets."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5360 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
