Postman David Carr was having a normal day at work when suddenly a taxi driver came running across the road. A man had collapsed of a heart attack opposite Morecambe post office and had no pulse.

David rushed across to give CPR to the victim as he lay outside the Arndale Centre.

But for his prompt intervention, the man could have died.

Now David has been honoured by his employers for his quick thinking and community spirit that day last October.

The 52-year-old sorting office worker was given a Royal Mail Community Champion award.

Aside from saving the man’s life, David has also raised thousands of pounds for good causes through charitable events and tin appeals.

Of the day in question, David said: “The man was slipping away.

“I helped revive him, get his pulse back and got him into the recovery position.

“It only lasted a few minutes but it felt like six hours.”

The man is believed to be back to full health but has not been officially reunited with David.

“I’ve seen him once since then, but didn’t like to say anything,” he said.
