Newbury ignores postal strike

Decision described as 'unusual and disappointing' as Newbury postal staff refuse to take part in strike action

ROYAL Mail staff in Newbury are ignoring the national postal strike called by the Communications Workersâ€™ Union (CWU).
The CWU's representative for the South East, Terry Jackson, said he believed there had been "a substantial return to work" in Newbury despite the national strike, which started at noon yesterday (Thurs Oct 4).
He described the situation as â€œdisappointing and unusual".
Postal workers have been seen on delivery rounds in Newbury and an anonymous postal worker at the sorting office at Bear Lane in Newbury told newburytoday that CWU members were â€œall inâ€

Its not exactly a hot bed of Militancy though - From Wikipedia

Newbury is a United Kingdom House of Commons constituency consisting of Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford and a large part of the surrounding area of West Berkshire. To the east, parts of West Berkshire have been incorporated into the Wokingham or Reading West constituencies. It is part of the South East region of England.

It is currently represented by Richard Benyon, Conservative, who won the seat in the 2005 general election from David Rendel of the Liberal Democrats.
