Faced with massive opposition to post office privatisation from the general public and from postal workers, as with education and the NHS, the government has been pursuing a backdoor route to privatisation.
JANE JAMES answers some questions about this attack on a vital public service, and argues it must be fought.

As one of those who was out in the Edinburgh Mail Centre , 'fraid , Gary , the writer of the article , who i know of , has got his Militant Myth hat on . Agency workers weren't the cause of the walk out .There was no real climbdown by management , but rather it was a union containment of the dispute to get the strikers back to work before it did escalate and get out of control .
But we all romance and enhance what really happens during a strike , don't we ?
On my blog at http://mailstrom.blogspot.com/2007/03/w ... burgh.html and also at http://mailstrom.blogspot.com/2007/03/i ... r-now.html
what happened and where i wrote with my Rank and File Activist hat on

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Right now , they have had the fact-finding interview by the so-called independent manager ( from Glasgow, i believe ) , who also observed the working conditions that was the immediate cause of the disagreement , and who was seen laughing and joking with the managers accused of provoking the walk out . The 5 are presently left in limbo at the moment awaiting their fate .
It should be added that we have also three union officials ...Scotland No 2 Branch Secretary , the Branch Chair , and Mail Centre processing Area Rep also facing disciplinary charges stemming from an incident during the last Xmas Pressure . They are also being left in limbo it seems , as management repeatedly keep delaying the out-come of the investigation . It was the Mail Centre Manager himself who instigated the papering of the officials at Xmas , along with a number of policy duty holders who have now received their "years serious" . one of who has decided on EVR due to the fact he fearwed he was going to be monitored in the future ( driven out of the job , in other words ) .
Looking from afar , no-one could be blamed for believing that this is a deliberate concerted attack by management on the Mail Centre staff , but for what reason we shall have to wait and see .
Or am i being paranoid ??
