Drug sniffed out by post office worker

An attempt to send illegal drugs through the post was scuppered when a postal worker recognised the smell of cannabis coming from a parcel.

Police were alerted after Paul Pinner, 42, took the package to Red Lodge post office where, Ipswich Crown Court heard on Monday, a member of postal staff had recognised the smell of the drug.

Prosecutor, Robert Sadd, said: “It was not wrapped perhaps as carefully as it might have been.” When police opened the package they found cannabis and amphetamines.

Pinner, of Ash Court, Red Lodge, pleaded guilty to two offences of attempting to supply a controlled drug and one of possession of cannabis. The drugs had an estimated street value 
of up to £735, said Mr 
Sadd.

Pinner, a father of four, had been sending the drugs to a friend and with the cost of packing and postage could not have hoped to make a profit, said Rory Keene, mitigating.

Pinner was a regular post office customer having sent many parcels to addresses all over the UK containing items such as iPhone covers and Louis Vuitton belts, Mr Keene told the court. He said the amounts of drug involved had been only “modest” and it had been an isolated incident.

Judge John Devaux told Pinner that he accepted the attempted supply of drugs had been to only one person and had not been part of a commercial operation.

Pinner was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work within the next 12 months.

He was told he would have to return to court later this year after investigators had established what value of his offending could be recovered from him.

It is quite a frequent occurrence.
Hate the sickly sweet smell of it. Very recognisable, even to someone like me who has never used it.

had a few, one was quite a large packet, i told the boss before i went out, wasn't bothered so tried to deliver it, too big for the letter box, 739 it brought it back to the locker, after a few hours they were playing hell about it, stunk the place out! lol

one they sent and had a charge, underpaid!
