Delay to post closures - Leigh delivery office.

ROYAL Mail has postponed the closure of its Leigh delivery office.

The company announced in May the London Road office would be relocated to Southend on July 1, despite more than 8,000 people signing a petition against it.

It has now said it needs more time to plan the move and has put the move back to August 12.

A statement from the company said: “This is to ensure the transfer of our operations and our people goes as smoothly as possible and we minimise any impact on our customers and employees.


“There will be no impact on deliveries.”

The statement added the company was still planning to move its Rochford delivery office to Southend at a date to be announced.

It continued: “Our planning always gives due consideration as to how we can best protect and serve the interest of our customers.

“Almost no other company has daily contact with its customers in the way Royal Mail does and we wish to continue high-quality services to our customers.”
