A SEVENOAKS war artist has been shot in Afghanistan.
Postman and painter Graeme Lothian was shot in the left arm by a Taliban sniper while on his fourth visit to the country.
The 53-year-old is alive and has been repatriated to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The Chronicle has had the information confirmed by three unrelated sources.
The incident is understood to have happened while he was on patrol with soldiers on Saturday.
The MoD is yet to comment.
Former paratrooper Mr Lothian, of Bayham Road, Sevenoaks, left for Afghanistan in May to photograph and paint for three weeks alongside the 1 Mech Brigade as one of the Armed Forces’ official war artists.
Speaking to the Chronicle at the time, Mr Lothian said it was to be his last opportunity to put the conflict on canvas.
He said: “I am aware we are looking at history, this will all finish soon and the armed forces will leave Afghanistan so I am keen to show what they do.”
Working as a part time postman to supplement his artistic work, Mr Lothian has also just published a book, An Artist In London.
More details to follow.

A 7.62 round injury is not going to be pretty, best of luck and hope he makes full recovery.

Sadly he was shot in the hand and may not be able to paint again, according to the Beeb

Sad story, though of course he is lucky to be alive.
