Post office re-opens for villagers in local pub

VILLAGERS at Stathern have their own post office once again after the previous one closed in October last year.

The new service opened on Thursday at the Plough Inn pub on Main Street.

Sub-postmistress Lesley Frances said footfall had been disappointing in the first few days but she was confident it would pick up.

She said: “It has been extremely slow but we put some leaflets out at the weekend and hopefully more people will start coming in.

“It’s very early days but it is important people use it because they might eventually lose it.”

The post office will offer the full range of services to customers, although it is only open on three days - Mondays between 9am and 2pm plus Thursdays and Fridays, from 9am and 1pm.

“It has been set up to open for 13 hours a week because that is how active the previous post office was before it shut,” said Lesley.

“Some people have come in and said it is nice to be able to go to a post office in the village rather than driving into a neaby town to use the one there.”

Post Offfice regional network manager for central England, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Stathern and we are confident that the hosted outreach service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
