Parsons Green postboxes sealed for fortnight due to lost keys

POST boxes in the Parsons Green area were sealed up for more than two weeks after a postman lost the keys.

Around 10 boxes located near New King’s Road and Fulham Road were emptied and then sealed after a set of collection keys went missing earlier this month.

With no explanation as to why they couldn’t post any letters or when they would be able to, nearby residents became frustrated at not knowing what was going on.


New King’s Road resident, Tom Hoyle, 31, said: “It’s been very irritating, there was no explanation as to why these boxes had been sealed.

“I spoke to someone at the post office and they told me that it was because the local postman lost his keys.

“Royal Mail knew there was a problem but they didn’t explain it or inform anyone, we were expecting they would change the locks, but that has taken about two weeks, there’s been no information.

“There was no notice as to when they would reopen, meaning we would have to go all the way to the local post office if we wanted to post a letter.

“When they organise a strike, they tend to put up a notice, but with this nothing.”

The Royal Mail have confirmed that the temporary closure was due to the locks being changed after the keys went missing.

But it reiterated that it had emptied all the post before sealing it, so no piece of mail went undelivered.

A spokesperson for the Royal Mail, Sally Hopkins, said: “We can confirm that a small number of postboxes in the Fulham area had to be temporarily sealed up just over two weeks ago after some collection keys went missing.

“The boxes were cleared before they were sealed so no mail was left inside. After replacement locks were fitted, we were able to reopen the majority of these boxes last week. The final sealed postbox, at the junction of Bishops Road and Fulham Road, was reopened on Monday (22).

“Royal Mail apologises to customers for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
