A campaign has been launched to save the under-threat Knaresborough Royal Mail delivery office from closure.

Workers from the Stockwell Road site met union representatives from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) along with Knaresborough councillors and supporters at an open meeting in the Borough Bailiff pub on Monday, March 25.

The union’s political officer for York and North Yorkshire Tony Pedel, and area delivery representative Mick Gray, both spoke at the meeting.

Mr Pedel urged postal workers and town residents to join forces to fight Royal Mail’s proposals to close the Knaresborough office and move operations to the Claro Road delivery office in Harrogate.

He said: “If we are really serious about protecting a valuable public service for the people of Knaresborough it needs to start now.”

The closure will move jobs to the Harrogate office and could leave Knaresborough people travelling to Harrogate to collect parcels and mail.

The delivery office will be discussed at the town council meeting on April 8.
