FOR a group of Fulham neighbours the sound of the letter box snapping back each morning meant more than just the arrival of the post.

Every day, just after 10am, postman Clem Rose would make his way around the streets of south Fulham, not only delivering the mail but catching up with his friends.

For the past six years, residents living in and around Bovingdon Road have welcomed their much-loved postman with open arms but on Saturday morning (February 2) they bid him farewell.

As a sign of their gratitude for his dedicated and caring service around 20 residents turned out to say goodbye to Mr Rose as he began his retirement, and for the first time, delivered him some post.

Organised by Elizabeth and Niel Redpath, he was presented with dozens of good luck cards and a frame with a personalised thank you letter in.

Mrs Redpath, who has lived in the road for 44 years, said: “Clem has been the most cheerful, positive person, always with a smile on his face and always willing to help. He’s been very much part of our community, he would stop and talk to anyone and everyone.

“We feel that Clem has been such a great person with the right ethos for life. Nothing was ever too much trouble, he’s always been extremely thoughtful. We wanted to give him a proper send off and thank him properly.”

Mr Rose, who lives in south London, is now relocating with his family to Selsey on the south coast.

This is not the first time that the residents have done something like this as they have previously organised a farewell party for their former milkman Henry.

Mr Redpath, added: “We just wanted to do something nice for Clem. He’s been a part of our lives and will be missed by everyone. He’s been so valued in our community and we wish him and his family all the best.”

You won't get much change out of £1 500 000 for an average house on that street. Hope they had a whip-round as well .
