Disgruntled Telford families this afternoon branded the Royal Mail as ‘pathetic’ after four days without deliveries.
The big freeze has hit deliveries across the town with many residents not getting any mail since last Thursday due to the cold snap which set in on Friday. The Royal Mail today apologised to residents for the delays in deliveries, citing the ‘severe winter weather conditions’.
But Mike Ridley, from Hillside, Lilleshall, said: “We’ve got a neighbour who’s waiting for a hospital appointment to come through and is getting quite stressed.
“Even the Germans couldn’t stop the post getting through. It’s pathetic.”
Corrina Jones, from Dawley, said she had post on Thursday as normal but just one letter yesterday. She said: “Normally we have more than one letter in three days.
We’re actually waiting for a large cheque – good job it’s not a make or break cheque.”
Meanwhile, businesses across the county were also suffering as deliveries failed to arrive and payments and bills were not getting through.
A spokeswoman for Wellington Cottage Care said their deliveries had been affected by the bad weather.
She said: “We did not have a delivery last Friday, or on Monday, when we were closed. However, we did have had some post today.”
Wedding and evening dress retailers Champagne and Roses, in Madeley, are also struggling with letters not arriving on time.
Wendy Arthur, who works at the store, said: “We are just not getting it on time. People are saying they have sent it but we have not got it yet.
“The post has been delivered but it is late. We do expect it though with the weather, people are only human after all.”
Royal Mail spokesperson Mike Norman said: “We apologise to customers who are experiencing delays to their deliveries in the Shropshire area as a result of the continued severe winter weather conditions there.
“A range of measures have been put in place to ensure deliveries reach people as quickly as possible.
“We are doing our utmost to ensure continued deliveries, but it may not be possible to do so everywhere because of the weather.”

People of Shropshire and for that matter, anywhere. Buck up, man up, face up, grow up, get up and go, whatever. Stop being oh so reliant on others. Telephone, email, text message, mobile phone, Twitter, Facebook, the neighbours next door, Whatsapp, whats ******g ever.
Stop blaming others and have contigency, guts, backbone, resolve and perhaps a little bit of make do and mend.
One 'card' falls over and the entire house crashes down, and why? Because you're pathetic reliance on others and the pathetic squeals as you beleive they, who are less important than you, the good old postman, has let you down. Its oh so very tiring and embarrasing too.
Is this attitude the same that brought our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers victory in the face of threat? (in no way forgetting the oh so valued and brillaint input from our Mums, aunts, granmdmothers and so on) No. No it is not.
Look after me, care for me, help me, feed me, weed me, dress me, paint me, wash me, write for me....urrrgh, I'm embarressed.
A bit of snow. A few days worth of mail not arrived. The odd hospital appoinment late or missed. Listen to yourselves. What an expecting shower you are. Your ancestors would be ashamed of you. Trenches, bayonets, day in day out bombardments, no food, constantly cold & ill, frightened, miles from home, yearn for Mum or lass, doodle bugs, gas.......
A spokesman for the Royal Mail appologised................... WHAT ? A spokesman for the Royal Mail appologised....... WHAT?
WHY? Was he responsable for the adverse (as if it was really 'adverse') weather, the little bit of snow we had? No. No he was not and neither was the Royal Mail. No he was not.
But you'll all not be satisfied until you're sat about the gallows knitting while waiting for the trap door to open and the moment Royal Mails spokesman falls through. He's a spokesman for heavens sake. He's not God.
What made England great........ seems to have got up and gone.
No, I do not work for the Royal Mail or any form of courier. I'm just ashamed, embarrased and angered that the fighting spirit displayed so heroically by our forefathers and mothers has now simmered down to letters and comments akin to thie drivel and self-centred sorrow advertised clearly above.
Thank you, rant done and dusted...... unless provoked further!"

Re: Anger as Royal Mail struggles to deliver in Telford
If you have bad snowy weather, post delivery person won't come to work on their day/week off or do overtime and then Royal Mail can't get the walk delivered. It is that simple. One guy at work today got three days of mail and lot of parcels today. I know as I been throwing it out last week.

Health and safety has moved on since the 50s where breaking your neck slipping on snow for no compo has long since gone.
