A PAIR of Royal Mail workers from Sheffield are the stars of a new calendar being distributed to 150,000 of the company’s employees.
Sarah Scrafield and David Mallett were both chosen to feature in the photo for February because of their charitable work.
Now Royal Mail is hoping their achievements will inspire other employees to get involved in charitable fundraising activities in 2013.
Delivery office managers Sarah and David raised £3,000 for Weston Park Hospital last year by swimming a whopping 22 miles each – the equivalent of swimming the English Channel.
David said: “It equated to 1,416 lengths of a 25m pool so we needed to swim about a mile a day to complete the task in the three-week window we set ourselves.”
Sarah told The Star: “I’m so delighted that we were chosen to be included in the calendar – it’s a real honour.
“Royal Mail has been really supportive of our charity work and I really hope this will help to inspire more employees to get involved in fundraising activities this year.”
The calendar features 26 employees who have been involved in similar fundraising efforts and will be distributed to employees across the UK.
The Royal Mail Group match funds penny-for-penny any money raised under their Charity of the Year scheme.
The group raised £400,000 for Partner Prostate Cancer UK as part of Movember – the most money raised for the charity by a single UK company network.
Sarah added: “Royal Mail’s match giving scheme is a great motivation for employees to take part in fundraising.”
Once Royal Mail reaches £2 million for its current Charity of the Year, Prostate Cancer UK, any funds then raised will be donated to either the Alzheimer’s Society, Prostate Cancer UK or Whizz-Kidz.
And the company will also match, penny for penny, up to £1 million.
What are you doing for charity?
