About 100 postal workers at a delivery office in south Bristol are staging a second one-day strike.
They first walked out for 24 hours on 10 December after talks between Royal Mail and union officials broke down.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) says its members are on strike because they are being asked to do more work with fewer people.
Royal Mail said it would again bring in managers from other parts of the country to try to prevent a backlog.
More than 40,000 households and businesses will be affected by the action.
'Period of calm'
The 24-hour strike will mean there will be no deliveries by postal workers at the depot in Mead Street, Bedminster, which serves properties in the BS4 (Knowle) and BS14 (Hengrove) postcode areas, between 00:01 and 23.59 on Monday.
Collections will not be affected.
The CWU said delivery rounds had been revised, forcing too much work on the staff.
The union also said some members had been bullied by managers.
Bristol CWU area official David Wilshire said there would be no further strikes before Christmas.
"Of course we want to talk again. Unfortunately last week talks broke down and no further days of talks were planned.
"We're going to have a period of calm after today, a period of reflection."
He said there would be a meeting outside the depot on 8 January to decide the next step.
Royal Mail said it hoped further talks could be held to resolve the dispute.

Second Christmas postal strike in south Bristol

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

RM will be pleased with the news about no further action until the New Year, I think Bristol have lost the opportunity to resolve their dispute.

They didn't really have much choice.Red Robbo wrote:RM will be pleased with the news about no further action until the New Year, I think Bristol have lost the opportunity to resolve their dispute.
They need to give 7 days notice and that means Christmas Eve which is poor PR from our point of view and not usually a very busy day anyway.
After that you have the in between bits and bobs during the next fortnight which again is pointless because mail arrivals and volumes are erratic.
They have done the right thing in appearing to put the customers first over Christmas and giving the members time to make good any money lost, enjoy their Christmas and recharge for the New Year.
The issues won't go away.they have a solid mandate for action and management have time to reflect on whether they want to start the new year up to their necks in backlog.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I do hope the depot linos were prep testing the new workforce to ensure performance targets were being met.
