Revised strike days

I cant believe it...have the PEC just made an almighty cock up. We have been telling our members that the strike dates are 5th and 6th October and the 8th and 9th October. Have the UNion just lsot this by pissballing about with days??? I know we have got some very very upset people and they are disgusted at the way the PEC have handled this change.

Royal Mail Dispute

Details of Strike Action - 4th/5th and 6th October

Last week the Postal Executive agreed the principle of two consecutive 48 hour strikes. We originally named the dates for those strikes as the 5th and 6th October.

The Executive have today considered the best way to uphold the two 48 hour strike principles, whilst ensuring, as far as possible, every function is treated on a fair basis.

Therefore, the following notice has been served:-

The strike will cover all duties, Scheduled Attendance and overtime commencing at or after 12 noon on Thursday 4th October 2007 and before 12 noon on Saturday 6th October 2007 and all duties, Scheduled Attendance and overtime commencing at or after 03.00 on Monday 8th October 2007 and before 03.00 on Wednesday 10th October.

This means the strike will commence on the 4th October for late shift Mail Centre employees.

All Branches and Representatives must ensure that this information is circulated/communicated to all members so that they are fully aware of the details.

This means we must MAXIMISE cut offs on Thursday 4th October as no Doubt the screws will try to push as much work out in the hope we will clear it before the strike.

This effectively gives the go ahead to cut off without having to worry about being disciplined.

So if your shift starts between 12.00 Saturday and 0300 Monday you have to go in or commit unofficial action.

What a feck up. I'm beginning to think the top table are losing the plot. We had a professional looking rolling strike stopped. Then replaced by a 2 day, sorry, 2 1/2 day strike. RM must be laughing their socks off at us. Come on Ward/Hayes, sort this mess out. We'd have been better off suspending the 2 dayers and reverting to the functional strikes.

I`m afraid this will piss more people off.
I`m fed up with hearing people moaning that they can`t afford it but I`m even more fed up with people saying that the proposed changes will only affect delivery staff. Too much complacency for my liking.
2 quotes I keep on hearing are "Apart from the pension it won`t affect us" etc. and "We`re only striking for delivery staff".
I keep telling them that whatever they can get away with doing to the delivery boys, you can be sure you`ll be next in line.
Get the feeling I`m pissing in the wind. They`ll be crying when the overtime dries up though. A few must be taking home Â£500+ per week with overtime and complain how much money they`ll 'lose'. Don`t they realise overtime is not guaranteed?

I support our union, no matter what, they have done a lot for me!!!

I'm just trying to get my head round the latest news but fully understand why the exec have done this. I know my fellow members will support this but we need to convince the unconvinced as to why the dates have been changed and personally, CWUHQ, need to keep churning out the home postings and more importantly, spell out what we stand to lose in terms of numbers if this campaign is not backed to the hilt with raw figures.

i.e. the pension scenario, loss of shift pay, loss of the MTSF etc...

Step the game up HQ, COME ON!!!!!

Will RM state that they haven't had the required notice? Is it 7 days ie Thurs to Thu or is it 7 x 24 hrs in which case did they notify RM by 12 noon today?

I agree with you. This will never stop at deliveries or affect a small percentage of our functions, IT WILL AFFECT EVERYONE. IT WILL!!!!

AND THOSE WHO DOUBT THIS, COME 2 YEARS TIME IF THEY (RM) GET THEIR WAY, WE WILL BE GETING SHOVED PILLAR TO POST WITH NO HOPE AND THOSE AT THE TOP WILL BE LAUGHING THEIR BOLLOX OF AT US RUBBING THEIR HANDS AT THE MONEY THEY'RE CREAMING OFF YOU WHILST DANGLING THE CARROTS AND MOVING THEM EVERYTIME YOU GET CLOSER TO THEM!!!

Thursday noon until Saturday noon is still only 2 days. They have to have a start and finish time. You won't please everybody, no matter what time you set for the start of industrial action.

Our rep has informed us you must always finish the shift you started. If you're finishing time on Thursday 4th October is 13.00, you would have to work until that time, you wouldn't be allowed to cut off.

i am lost on this topic, so what is being said now that 12pm on saturday day we have to go in and do 1 hours work? cut off i think is 1pm or something on sat for delivery staff or 12.40 pm or something? lost big time here. This is a shambles.

No, simple fact. In deliveries, do your normal job Thursday, finish at your proper time, then your off til the Wednesday morning.

if your shift starts 1pm on a Saturday, then you would go in!! and if you work Sun Morning and Sun afternoon, in a MC you would work your shift!!!
