TNT POST in the Netherlands

Post by Broxi51 »

Was speaking to a friend who lives in the Netherlands and she said
that the papers are all full of TNT Post declaring that in the next 3 years
their postmen will have to take a 10% cut in wages. According to my friend
TNT Post are still making large profits.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Have read the above posts from postman. I seem to remember reading that TNT are making very good profits from the British open market and it is this that is keeping TNT afloat.
When we are on strike the DSA mail will get top priority thus giving our competitors the opportunity to steal more contracts with us doing the work. Something stinks.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the union should be thinking of different ways of disrupting the flow of mail without costing its members a days pay. Don't sort or deliver our competitors mail. This would encourage those companies that have defected to return to royal mail and it would also highlight to government the nonsense that the current DSA is.

There was a link to a blog somewhere that made interesting reading.

re: That would be classed as willful delay

If you got caught doing something like that, it would legally be considered willful delay. There is a DSA agreement, and another company pays RM a certain amount to deliver tha mail. Another example is large companies who walksort their mail and get a cheaper price, which is slightly different but again taking away a certain amount of revenue from RM.

As for competitor mail getting preference during a strike, I would be surprised, but as a normal customer would be annoyed and question the legality of such a move. I don't think RM Ops is clever emough to distinguish between this during a strike, other than to say that the mail in theory would get into Delivery Offices quicker as it's coming directly into the inward sort offices.

Your thoughts?

As I understand; the mangers had specific instructions to clear Special Deliveries and DSA. Our office had sufficient managers in to do both. DSA was cut, tipped, racked and run through the mech and was the only mail ready to go the following day. This was because the RM had to give priority or face fines from Postcom.

Would it be wilfull delay if it part of IA? Surely strike action could be deemed wilfull delay in that case.

I know from working as a manager during a strike (don't all throw tomatoes) we prioritised special deliveries and business deliveries. The reason was the relative ease at getting high value and large volume deliveries done with fewer people. Lots of mech mail would go to firms so we could clear several sacks in a short space.

As for DSA, if that is the case then it would be more recent, and the logic of postcomm fines is possible, though under industrial action I reckon a fine would be less likely. RM are probably more scared of losing large wholesale revenue's via fines from the likes of TNT. imagine the compensation bill on 2.4bn items annually from TNT alone?

Remember that DSa mail is almost exclusively mech, and comes in on the inward side. It would be easy to process it through the machines and get it into depots more quickly than RM collected mail that would need to go through the outward side. Having said that walksort mail collected by RM could also get through the system as quickly as DSA.

Well, I thought the 'S; at the top right of the envelope stood for 'Slow' and have always sorted and delivered it after the Mailsorts. Honest.

Well Fozzies sort of Ok but completely brainwashed. The company/corporate mindset runs deep. Every post has a buisness speak angle . Not his fault it's called indoctrination.

If we all refuse to deliver DSA mail , IT is industrial action. What can RM do SACK us all? Who delivers the mail?

Unfortunately not since 1979 and Mad Maggie, since then natural justice has gone they way of the dinsoaurs and Laws have been made based on 3 things.

Political Expediency.
Who is paying for it. (ie big business)
Popularity Polls.
