In 2004 Allan Leighton floated the proposal to distribute 51% of the shares in Royal Mail.

His proposal to privatise Royal Mail was opposed by the CWU.

It is a pity it was at a fringe meeting.

It is a pity he wasn't on National TV - but then he isn't a charismatic leader - what do the public see when he appears on TV?
The next time we elect someone we should ensure he is a Blair like figure - like him or loath him, he held sway at public meetings, he had the common touch. I always likened him to Bill Clinton - who, although he was a bit of a lad, was much loved by the American people.

Clinton was basically a c**t , there's a lot of very nasty things that happened , did the same things as Bush but apparently he had a electric presence & the yanks wern't bothered about Monica , his wacky baccy ;as long as the country appeared to be run well. There was a arrangement with him & Hilary , she was prepared to turn a blind eye so she could get ahead.

Hilary was and still is an ambitious and clever woman. Monica was a working class strumpet. Clinton was a charismatic leader and so was Blair, that's not to say everything they did was right BUT put them in front of an audience and they worked them. Image is all in this media led society. I would prefer the image of the CWU to be associated more with Rocky than Billy Bunter.
