Posties through to choir final

A GROUP of Bristol postal workers are through to the final of a reality TV choir competition.

The posties, from all across Bristol, will fight it out against choirs from SevernTrent Water and Lewisham NHS Trust in the final episode of Gareth Malone's The Choir

The group of 30 singers came together in April, with Mr Malone guiding them to a BBC TV competition which has been broadcast this month.

Auditioning to join a choir drawn from Royal Mail sorting offices in Kingswood and Filton, they completed months of singing practice for a competition pitting them against other workplace choirs.

Last night saw them win through a sing-off with three other choirs, in which a group of workers from Manchester Airport lost out.

Workers have praised the show for uniting the workforce – from executives to delivery men – and showing the pride and passion of employees.

Mr Malone found fame teaching reluctant schoolchildren to sing in The Choir, before taking last year's Christmas Number One slot with the Military Wives, a group of women whose husbands were serving in Afghanistan.

Among the posties involved are Sam Fry, 50, from Kingswood, who was selected as a tenor and received one-on-one tuition from Mr Malone, and Naomi Par, 32, from Filton.

The conclusion to the series will be aired next Thursday on BBC2, at 9pm.

"Workers have praised the show for uniting the workforce" - maybe the CWU could learn a lesson here.
Didn't win though.
