POSTMEN could soon be delivering letters off the back of Chinese built electric scooters if the latest Aim entrant has its way.

Vmoto will raise £1.6million when it lists on November 9, giving it a market value of around £12million. It is being advised by broker finnCap.

The Australian firm makes a range of electric powered scooters priced from £2,000 to £3,000 for customers in Asia, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Spain.

Led by managing director Charles Chen, the company wants to expand further into Europe and the UK, where it is in late-stage discussions with a distributor.
Vmoto – whose scooters have a range of up to 80 miles and a top speed of around 50mph – is hoping initially to target courier and postal services such as TNT and the Royal Mail.

But it is also eyeing up growing demand among commuters for cheaper “clean and green” forms of transport.

Vmoto believes its scooters are a “viable option” for cash-strapped travellers because they avoid both road tax and the London congestion charge.

A lack of suitable charging points has held back the development of electric vehicles so far, but Vmoto says its batteries can be removed and charged using an ordinary home socket.

Its range of retro 1950s and 1960s style scooters, with accessories such as bags, locks, towels and sunglasses, could also appeal strongly to Western tastes.
Chen commented: “We intend to expand our marketing and sales operations in Europe to exploit the growing demand for electric scooters.”
